Depart
the city for Simonstown to board the 32-foot catamaran, Whale Rider
for a 2-hour boat trip and the chance of a personal encounter with
False Bay’s Whales, Dolphins and Great White Sharks.
Excellent
sightings are possible as we may approach within 50 metres of these
species which, from June to November, principally include Southern
Right Whales (that enter Cape waters to mate and calve), with Humpback,
Bryde, Minke and Sei Whales, Common and Bottlenose Dolphins seen throughout
the year.
Return
to port for lunch at a seafood restaurant, then stop at the unique
African Penguin Colony at Boulders Beach. Continue down the coast
into the Cape of Good Hope National Park, where we might see various
endemic Cape species like Ostrich, Bontebok, Baboon and Cape Mountain
Zebra. Walk or ride the funicular up to the famous Cape Point Lighthouse
to take in the magical vistas of False Bay from this, the tip of the
Peninsula and south westernmost point of Africa.
Leave
the reserve, heading home past the beaches of Noordhoek and over Chapman’s
Peak Drive, one of the most spectacular coastal passes in the world,
through the fishing village of Hout Bay and along the beautiful Atlantic
Seaboard.
