Congratulations,
you have found Kapama Private Game Reserve, the best game reserve
for an African safari amongst the Big 5 animals of Africa. Kapama
is one of South Africa’s largest privately owned game
reserves, perfectly positioned in the Limpopo province safari
area, renowned for its high density of big game animals. A game
drive in Kapama Game Reserve, with a qualified ranger and expert
tracker, reveals wild animals and many secrets of the African
bush.
Kapama Lodge - a luxurious traditional safari
lodge with air-conditioned thatched chalets positioned around
a lake fringed with reeds. Calm atmosphere, good dining and
friendly staff. Each spacious room at Kapama River Lodge features
a full en-suite bathroom and terrace with uninterrupted views
into the leafy-green Big 5 game reserve. The central guest entertainment
areas include a large rim-flow swimming pool with sun umbrellas
and recliners for lazy afternoons. The long L-shaped relaxation
lounge and bar under a double-volume thatch, curves around the
pool and on either side is a huge double-sided fireplace creating
a wondrous open-plan yet cosy atmosphere. The Rhino Boma dining
area with tables arranged under a low thatch in a horseshoe
curve, has a central open space where a roaring outdoor fire
gives a glow to evening meals. Buffet-style meals introduce
African flavours with Pan African dishes using fresh local ingredients
and specialist dishes featuring venison like kudu and impala.
Kapama River Lodge – an impressive and
elegant large safari lodge that can accommodate groups without
compromising its high standards. Contemporary African décor
in double volume thatch lounges create a cavernous effect and
the open plan design extends to the pool deck with a large rim-flow
pool looking towards a waterhole. The northern Drakensberg mountain
range provides a majestic backdrop to the largest private game
lodge in the Greater Kruger National Park region. Kapama River
Lodge is situated within Kapama Game Reserve, and presents the
perfect blend between luxurious safari accommodation and a generous
bed capacity of 42 bedrooms. Although large, it is so stylish
and roomy and beautifully positioned along a dry riverbed, that
guests fall in love with it.
Kapama Buffalo Camp - timeless tented safari
style for only 16 guests, with en-suite rooms perched on platforms
high above the riverbed and connected to each other by wooden
walkways. This is a favourite because of its intimate rustic
feel and al-fresco dinners around the open fire. Reminiscent
of a traditional African safari camp, Kapama Buffalo Camp offers
a unique and intimate experience in the African bush. It is
ideal for discovering big game Africa in true safari tented
style without compromising on comfort.
Eight luxury canvas tents, each sleeping two, are set on wooden
decks built on stilts over a steep-sided riverbank. Wooden walkways
interconnect the rooms, which are all in the upper reaches of
tall riverine trees. The river below rarely flows and antelopes
are seen daily walking along the sandy riverbed. Each tented
room has all the usual comforts of electricity, en-suite bathroom,
safe, writing table, wardrobe, suitcase stand and tea/coffee
facilities. With a maximum of 16 guests at Buffalo Camp, special
attention is paid to personal service and the staff become like
friends. Kapama Buffalo Camp is a truly authentic way to experience
the African bush
Location - Kapama Game Reserve is within the Greater Kruger
National Park wilderness area just 4½ hours drive northeast

ELEPHANT BACK SAFARI - This is a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity here in Kapama Game Reserve to ride on the back
of an African elephant. Meet the herd in the early morning or
late afternoon and learn just how to get onto the back of an
elephant and move to its rhythm as they walk through the bush.
Elephants need to feed for many hours a day, so just because
you are on top, this doesn’t stop them from pulling down
branches and grabbing a trunk full of grass as they walk. They
are the largest creatures in the African jungle so other animals
that you may come across will give way to you. After walking
for about an hour, the elephants will return you to the elephant
boma. A video can be made of your experience for an additional
fee.
HOT AIR BALOON - The giant candy-striped balloons
lift off at first light and drift at the mercy of the wind for
about an hour. This usually means that you pass right over Kapama
Game Reserve and the skill of the balloon pilot is such that
you can skim the top of the trees and spot the wild animals
below. The hot air balloon landing can be bumpy, so hold on
tight then celebrate with a glass of bubbly. This memorable
experience is highly recommended.
ROMANTIC SLEEPOUT IN KAPAMA GAME RESERVE -
Sleeping out under the African moon on the Kapama Romance Platform
could be one of the most memorable nights of your life! Arrive
at the double-story wooden platform, to a vision of billowing
white mosquito netting surrounding a giant bed of white linen.
It will take your breath away. This is your most private night
in the bush; it is just you and the African animals in the wilderness.
You are quite safe, as the platform and luxury bathroom underneath
(complete with flush toilet, rose-head shower and his ‘n
hers basins) are animal-proof. You are nevertheless, supplied
with a radio and cellphone for your peace of mind.
HOEDSPRUIT CENTRE FOR ENDANGERED SPECIES -
This is an ideal activity for the restless to fill up a morning
after breakfast. A guide will take your to the Hoedspruit Centre
for Endangered Species facility where cheetah and a number of
other rehabilitated animals can be viewed at close range. An
educational video is shown to explain the projects undertaken
by this unique establishment. A guided tour will follow to view
the cheetah and other animals.
GOLFING SAFARI – HANS MERENSKI - Enjoy
a challenging game of golf at the Hans Merenski Country Club
Championship Course in Phalaborwa, or the Drakensig Golf Club
in Hoedspruit. Both require an early morning departure and a
luxury air-conditioned mini safari vehicle will do your road
transfers from Kapama. Wildlife often roam around the golf courses,
making this game of golf rather unique. Return to the lodge
in time for your evening game drive. Clubs are available but
prior notice is necessary to confirm availability.
HONEYMOON - Or there is the Kapama three-night
honeymoon package, with a night on the romantic Kapama Sleepout
Platform. The giant bed is swathed in fine mosquito netting
and all lit up with lanterns for a night of complete privacy
and romance in the heart of the African wilderness. You are
quite safe, as the platform and luxury bathroom underneath (complete
with flush toilet, rose-head shower and his ‘n hers basins)
are animal-proof. You are nevertheless, supplied with a radio
and cellphone for your peace of mind. Relax and absorb the sights
and sounds of wild Africa before sinking into a slumber, punctuated
by the roar of lions.
WEDDINGS - A wedding in the wilds of Africa
is unlike any other wedding celebration in the world. A safari
wedding is limited only by your imagination, and at Kapama we
let our imaginations run wild. Each occasion becomes a carefully
planned and co-ordinated event, and we reach new levels of creativity
with each bush wedding we plan.
Kapama Game Reserve has two lodges and one luxury tented camp
with the following accommodation facilities:
-
Kapama Lodge: 40 beds (20 rooms).
-
Kapama River Lodge: 84 beds (42 rooms, two of which are full
suites).
-
Buffalo Camp: 16 beds (8 luxury safari tents).
The variety of accommodation sizes and styles makes Kapama the
ideal venue with a number of wedding options.
TEAM BUILDING - Kapama offers a number of incentive
options to groups of which include
-
The Amazing Race
-
Game capture participation
-
Clay pigeon shooting
-
Elephant interaction
AMAZING RACE - The Kapama Amazing Race is loosely
based on the highly successful television series, but we use
GPS hand units to assist navigation through this African bush
adventure.
PARTICIPATING
IN GAME CAPTURE - Game capture is often required for
relocation of animals, treating wounds, or for attaching anti-poaching
tracking devices. Kapama can plan such activity to involve a
group to help locate the animal and be present at the darting.
They can assist in moving, treating and releasing the animal.
This activity is of very limited availability and is hence a
very special event.
CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING - Kapama have a equipped
clay pigeon range with three automatic machines which are set
up for first timers as well as the more experienced shot. This
is a great team building exercise or is just jolly good fun.
ELEPHANT INTERACTION - Camp Jabulani’s
elephant herd meet the group for a very special African elephant
interaction. The herd manager, Paul Coetzee, shares his extensive
knowledge about elephants and explains elephant behaviour. Such
close proximity to these gentle giants of the African bush is
a wonderful experience.
DINING - Various options are available to groups
for exclusive dining. These include a bush dinner or Breakfast,
formal silver-service dinner with various African bands and
cultural dancing.
