Ivory
Tree Game Lodge is situated in the north eastern region of the
Pilanesberg National Park, the closest point of entry is through
Bakgatla Gate.
Most of our guests are at Ivory Tree for the thrill of the open
vehicle safari. Ivory Tree uses custom built 10 seater open
game viewers which permit maximum all around visibility. The
park is home to a wide variety of general game including the
Big 5, in addition both species of rhino occur, namely black
and white, and cheetah and wild dog. Each group of guests is
assigned a personal guide who is tasked with interpreting the
sights and sounds of the African bush.
FEATURES:
Decorated
in a range of earthy tones ranging from terra cottas to deep
blues, the rooms have been carefully co-ordinated to ensure
comfortable seating both indoors and out. The standard configuration
includes two twin beds and in a limited number of rooms it is
possible for to offer a king size bed. It is also possible to
introduce a third bed into the room in the event that a child
/ children wish to share with parents. It is not possible to
add a fourth bed.
Wildlife
- An abundance of wild life proliferate in 580 km of diverse
and arresting bushveld terrain. The park is home to healthy
populations of lion, leopard, black and white rhino, elephant
and buffalo - Africa's "Big Five".A wide variety
of rare and common species exist with endemic species like
the nocturnal brown hyaena, the fleet-footed cheetah, the
majestic sable, as well as giraffe, zebra, hippo and crocodile,
to mention but a few.
Bird-life - Bird watching is excellent with over 300 species
recorded. Some are migrants, others permanent inhabitants;
some eat carrion or live prey, others eat seeds, fruit or
tiny water organisms.
ACTIVITIES
The
principle activity at Ivory Tree is the open vehicle safaris.
Unlike most national park game drives, ours are conducted
in custom built 10 seater vehicles. Given the emphasis
placed on big game viewing we have ensured that guests are
allocated a dedicated ranger on arrival for the duration of
their stay with us.
This
enables your ranger to better understand your particular interests
and permits enough time to do his/her best to ensure that Ivory
Tree satisfies your requirements. Game drive times are determined
by optimal animal activity periods and would be adjusted
seasonally, for example, during the summer months the game drives
would typically take place early in the morning (before breakfast)
and late in the afternoon.
During the winter months, game drives depart later in the
morning (after breakfast) and earlier in the afternoon.
There
are also a numerous activities which occur in and around the
Pilanesberg National Park, which include hot air ballooning,
elephant back rides and golf at the nearby Sun City complex.

There can be little quite as special as sharing an African safari
with your children. Children up to the age of 6 are not permitted
on regular safaris.
Children between the ages of 6 and 12 are permitted on regular
safaris the sole discretion of the ranger. In the event that
children are denied a regular safari and subject to availability
we will offer a kiddies bush bumble, this is a shortened safari
concentrating on the little things in the bush and avoiding
deliberate encounters with the big 5.
